Welcome - I’m Sunny Austin, a counsellor based in Whitstable.
I offer in-person counselling from my quiet, comfortable clinic room - a space where you can pause, reflect, and work through whatever is on your mind, with warmth, respect, and support.
If you're looking for a grounded, face-to-face therapeutic relationship, I'd be glad to meet with you.
We all struggle from time to time
In any given year, one in four people experience difficulties with their mental health. You're not alone - and you don't have to go through it alone.
In our culture, asking for help is sometimes misunderstood as weakness. In truth, reaching out is a sign of strength. It takes courage to look inward and begin the process of change.
My approach
I work with both men and women who are feeling stuck, distressed, or simply in need of support.
Counselling offers a dedicated space to slow down and reflect—on your life, your patterns, and your sense of self. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin.
As your counsellor, I will offer a warm, accepting, and non-judgemental environment where you can explore difficult thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Being truly listened to and understood is powerful—and often the first step toward meaningful change.
Therapy with me is collaborative. You set the pace and direction. We might explore the impact of your past, focus on present challenges, or look ahead to how you want your life to be.
Together, we’ll work toward greater clarity, resilience, and a deeper sense of well-being.
I first came to counselling in my early thirties, during a difficult chapter in my life. I was overwhelmed and unsure how to move forward—but the support I received was life-changing.
The warmth, understanding, and genuine care I experienced helped me feel grounded again and begin to move on. That experience stayed with me, and eventually inspired me to train as a counsellor.
About me
I qualified in Humanistic Counselling in 2012. Since then, I’ve worked with a wide range of people - through NHS Talking Therapies, community services, employment support schemes, and in private practice.
I’m a warm, thoughtful, and sensitive counsellor. I work with clients both short- and long-term, depending on what’s needed. Over the years, I’ve supported people with a range of challenges, including:
depression and low mood
general and health anxiety
grief and loss
work-related stress
low self-esteem
family and relationship difficulties
I have worked alongside people of different ages and backgrounds, often during times of change, loss or uncertainty. I feel deeply privileged to hear people’s stories - their struggles, strengths, and everything in between.
My core approach is based on person-centred, existential and solution focussed brief counselling. Over time I have become more Integrative in my work, incorporating aspects of Psychodynamic therapy and CBT.
“I will always be grateful for the time, care and sensitivity you gave me in a dark period.” Adam
Once you get in touch, I’ll offer a short phone call so you can ask any questions and get a feel for how I work.
If you’d prefer, we can have this first conversation by email or text instead.
We’ll then arrange your first in-person appointment.
Our first session is a chance for you to talk about what’s troubling you. You’re welcome to ask questions about the process, and together we’ll begin to identify the issues you’d like to focus on.
Beginning therapy
It’s also an opportunity for us both to get a sense of whether we feel like a good fit.
At the end of the session, we’ll check in about how you’re feeling. You can then take some time to reflect and decide if you’d like to continue.
You really got me. Thank you so much.” Sarah
Cost
Sessions are £50 and last for 50 minutes.
This is my standard rate for in-person counselling.
I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, depending on what feels right for you.
You’re welcome to begin with one session and see how it feels.
I have a small number of concessionary places available — please feel free to ask.
Location
I work from a quiet, comfortable garden room on Sydney Road in Whitstable.
The room is accessed via a private side passage, offering a discreet and welcoming space to begin therapy.
Full address and directions will be provided once we arrange your first appointment.
