Feeling stuck: a place to begin
March 2026
Feeling stuck can be difficult to describe. You might have a sense that something isn’t quite right, while also not being sure what it is. Things can feel heavy, unclear, or as though you’re going round in circles without really moving forward.
At times, you may notice the same thoughts, feelings, or situations returning repeatedly, while still not feeling any closer to understanding what is happening or what needs to change.
Sometimes, it can help to slow things down a little and pay closer attention to what happens around the feeling of being stuck. You might notice when it becomes strongest, what seems to happen around it, or what thoughts and feelings tend to return alongside it.
Often, there’s something underneath the feeling that hasn’t quite come into words yet. There may be uncertainty about what you want, pressure from different directions, or a sense that something important has been pushed aside for a long time.
What first feels like a dead end can sometimes begin to feel more like a pause — a place where something in your life hasn’t fully taken shape yet.
In counselling, we can take time to explore this together without needing to rush towards solutions or immediate answers. As things begin to feel a little clearer, it can become easier to understand what may have been keeping you stuck.
